By openly sharing the methodologies behind projects like MatCreatioNN, the lab empowers the next generation of students to engage in rigorous, AI-driven scientific discovery.

Current Research Focus The lab’s portfolio is defined by the intersection of artificial intelligence and rational materials design, with a strong emphasis on bioremediation and sustainable chemistry.

  • Machine Learning for Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs): The lab spearheads research into the computational design of “undesignable” Metal-Organic Frameworks. By training machine learning algorithms on fundamental building blocks and chemical interactions, PI Kokonda’s team predicts stable MOF structures that traditional trial-and-error synthesis cannot reliably identify.
  • MatCreatioNN & Photocatalyst Discovery: A core technological asset of the lab is the MatCreatioNN platform. This proprietary machine learning-guided framework accelerates the computational discovery of novel photocatalysts. These materials are specifically designed for environmental applications, focusing on the degradation of organic compounds through photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes.
